Components - Sections

A Section is fundamentally necessary when building a template. It is essentially a container for the “building block” components (i.e. Text, Buttons, Images) you will use to construct your template. The Section will continue to expand and grow vertically as you add more content.

You must have at least one Section in every email template. By default, new templates starting from scratch have an empty Section in the preview area for you to drag in components. If you start with a Second Street template, one or more sections will already exist with content populating them.

A Section controls how many columns an area of your email template will have, and how those columns appear. There are four section options: one column, two columns, right sidebar, and left sidebar.

Tip! You can change how many columns a Section has at any time. All content in a Section with multiple columns must go in one of those columns. You must use multiple columns if you want two components to appear side by side, like Social Links next to a block of Text.

A Section has a number of attributes that apply for all content in that Section. These attributes include background color, a border, top/bottom padding, left/right padding, and the option to make the section full width (which means if the section has a background color, that color breaks the 600px boundary and fills available space to the left and right)

If you drag a Section into the preview area, all content in that Section will move with it above or below any other Section in the layout. You can drag content from one Section to another.

You can always see how many Sections you have on the Edit Tab. They will be numbered in the order they appear (Section 1, Section 2, etc.) Clicking on a Section from the Edit Tab allows you to easily find it and modify its attributes at any time.
