Defaults - Email Defaults: Token Fallbacks

Token Fallbacks allow you to create a backup value for some email personalization tokens. If a member of your audience is missing data the token relies on, the backup value will fill the gap within your email message.

Navigate to your Organization Settings by clicking on the three-lined hamburger menu at the upper lefthand corner of the admin tool, then select Settings. Next, select the Edit option next to Email Defaults and then click on the Token Fallbacks tab.

To edit any of your token fallbacks, just type what you'd like the fallback to be for any of the offered tokens on the line to the right and select Save.

The tokens we currently offer fallbacks for are:

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Birthdate
  • Gender
  • City
  • State/Province
  • Postal Code

Note: In the case of a chain or market hierarchy, fallbacks set at the parent level will be inherited down to the child organization. However, the child org can overwrite this and use its own fallback.
